PRODUCT

The Petnet SmartFeeder is a Wi-Fi connected automatic pet feeder for cats and dogs. Using the Petnet App you can personalize your pet’s daily meal times and portions, order pet food for delivery – and even feed from your phone.

UX FINDINGS

Worked with the Creative Director and VP of Design to rework the user flow to allow for a shorter onboarding time

INSPIRATION

To create the app’s loading animation, I naturally looked to Edweard Muybridge’s photographs of a dog and a cat in motion

USER INTERFACE ICONOGRAPHY

I gathered inspiration from baby products. Soft and gentle colors and minimal design to make the user feel they are giving their pet the best care

MICRO ANIMATIONS

I created the UI design to be minimal and intuitive in order to allow for responsive animation to exist without feeling overbearing. The file selector was designed to look like an old image slide.

SIMPLIFYING DATA

Pet data entry was changed into a step by step questionnaire, allowing the owner to feel they are taking care of  their pet.  User can input pet's information to provide the right amount of food so the app and feeder will be working in the background, creating peace of mind for the pet owner

eCOMMERCE

A feeding schedule is created based on the pet's age and level of activity. eCommerce shopping experience was integrated for seamless food delivery on schedule

FINAL PRODUCT

The app now offers a complete profile for your pet to provide the accurate measurements for each timed meal based on the pet’s weight, age, and activity levels. Creating a streamlined user experience that can be used to create a pet profile, and allow the app to work silently in the background was key.

The app only notifies you when your pet has been fed, if the food is low, or if there is a problem with the feeder. New features include an option to connect more than one feeder for multiple pets, and an ecommerce delivery service based on your pet’s nutritional needs. WIth the ecommerce feature now included, new designs were added for the food’s delivery information

CHALLENGE

Problem:
Original designs lacked clarity, felt generic, and was found to be difficult to read. App worked similar to a health monitor rather than a remote feeding app. Customers did not feel connected to their pet. Mostly made up of data and charts with unnecessary information to be useful for the average user. Customers had to purchase food separately online, disrupting the automation of the user's experience

Solution:
Petnet needed a brand identity and visual experience to strengthen the appeal of their platform with the goal of increasing user adoption. I introduced interactive solutions such as hand-drawn concepts, interface animation, loaders, icon design and animation, brand direction as well as provided an interactive approach to their brand
